Danish language courses
When you have a Danish CPR number, you should receive a letter from the language center offering you the chance to attend Danish classes. Please contact the language center (“Sprogcentret”) if you have not received your offer within two months.
Foreign employees and students now have to pay partially to learn Danish
Introduction of partial user payment for courses in Danish language.
From 1. July 2018 all self supporting attendants to courses in Danish language including foreign employees and students have to pay DKK 2.000 per module. A Danish course will typically consist of six modules.
To qualify as self-supporting, you are in Denmark
- to work or study,or
- as an accompanying spouse, or
- through family reunification based on EU rules, or
- to work as an au pair
This fee is determined by governmental regulations. Payment is required to begin every module
Refugees and family reunification holders are not included in the user payment scheme, and they will still be able to take Danish courses for free. Au pairs are also not included as the host family already pays part of the expenses for Danish lessons under the present rules.
In addition to the course fee you must make a 1.250 DKK deposit to enroll at Danish Education 1, 2 or 3. The deposit will be fully refunded when you complete or interrupt your Danish Education.
Students who started learning Danish at a language school in Denmark before 1 July 2017 can continue without paying a deposit.
You do not have to pay deposit if your grounds for residence permit are:
- as a refugee, or
- came to Denmark through family reunification, under the rules of the Danish Aliens Act and with an integration contract, or
- as an au pair
